How We Made our First Instagram Sale (With Only 74 Followers)
Instagram is a unique platform because it is easy to find so many great people with the similar interests. That is why I love running a business through Instagram. It is all about making real connections with real people to start great relationships! Not about pushing a hard sell.
We made are first Instagram sale to a stranger when we only had 74 followers!
How we did it:
The most important thing we did was focus on really interacting with all of our first followers. We made it a goal to DM every single new follower until we reached 300 followers.
Here is the process we went through with every new follower:
- Check out their profile and find some common interests (where they were from, what art they liked etc)
- DM them to thank them for their early support and get a conversation going about our common interests.
- Give them a discount code or free shipping.
Our first sale to a stranger through instagram was in Canada!
This is how it went down :
We replied to her story of a beautiful hike with her dog.
And got a conversation going about the outdoors and Canada. Then offered free shipping for our first Canadian customer.
That's it. The sale was made later that night!
***A word of caution: We ended up having to pay a lot more than expected for international shipping, so maybe offer a flat rate discount instead of free shipping when shipping to a different country.
